Itinerary Related:

  • We are suggesting you a program with your arrival at Shimla and departure from Manali.
  • You can extend your stay in Shimla & Manali both at the beginning or at the end of the tour.
  • You need to be physically fit for the tour and you must consult your doctor before travelling. You reach an elevation of 15500 feet on this tour.
  • You need to make some preparation for the tour and we have given some important links you must read like – What to carry during the trip, Important tips for the tour and Phone connectivity in the region.
  • The driving times can vary a little depending on the road conditions.
  • In case you need us to arrange for the self-driven vehicles, we can do that and vehicles can be arranged from Delhi, Chandigarh, Shimla and Manali. You may discuss with our tour consultant on the types of vehicles available.
  • In case you do not want to drive on your own and need a vehicle with the driver, that can also be arranged.
  • Please carry 2-3 copies of ID’s issued by Govt of India for all travelers. Also have your Rohtang Pass permit ready beforehand.
  • Always keep your video and still cameras ready during the whole trip. You will just want to capture every moment of your journey to Kinnau and Spiti valleys. We suggest that you should carry a tripod for the camera.
  • You must step out to watch the night skies at all places in Kunnaur and Spiti. On clear nights you are able to see the milky way with naked eye and you will have an opportunity to take some amazing photographs.

day 1

Arrive Shimla

Arrive on your own in Shimla. Check in at the hotel.
We suggest that after resting for some time take some short hikes within Shimla. Walk as much as possible as that will help you to acclimatize to higher altitude.

day 2

Shimla – Kufri – Fagu – Theog – Narkand - Thanadhar

Breakfast at your hotel and check out. Ay around 09:00 we leave for Thanadhar. Our drive today first takes us to Kufri, which is just 15 Kms and 45 minutes drive from Shimla. Here we can take a short halt to take some pictures. Then we drive on to Fagu which is just 6 Kms and 15 minutes from Kurfi. The little town of Fagu is endowed with some beautiful landscapes and you can take a short halt to take photos.
From Fagu we drive on to Theog a sleepy little town with beautiful views of mountains all around. It is 10 Kms and half an hour drive from Fagu.
From Theog we drive on to Narkand which is around 33 Kms from Theog and take 1¼ hour drive to reach. Narkand located at a height of 8900 feet, is surrounded by apple orchards and dense forests and offers beautiful views of the mountains around. It is also a popular skiing destination in winters.
You can spend some time in Narkand, have you lunch here a one hour drive will take you to Thanadhar. On arrival check in at the Hotel or Guest House.
Later in the afternoon you can visit the Stokes Farm famous for its delicious apples.

day 3

Thanadhar – Sarahan– Sangla Valley

After breakfast check out and arounf 09:00 am drive to Sarahan which is 78 Kms from Thanadhar and about 3 hours drive. Most of your drive today is along the river Sutlej. From Sarahan one can get beautiful views of the mountains and Shrikhan Peak that is visible from here, the tip of this mountain never gets covered in snow. Sarahan is surrounded by almonds, plum & peach orchards. In the heart of the town lies the temple of Goddess Bhima Kaali.
After visiting the temple have lunch at one of the local dhabas.
From Sarahan we drive on to Sangla Valley which is 83 Kms from here and a 3 hour drive. Arrive at Sangla Valley and check in at your Guest House or Camp. Sangla valley is famous for its apple orchards, cherry trees and trout fishing.

day 4

Sangla Valley – Rakchham – Chitkul – Kalpa

After breakfast check out by 09:00 and drive to Chitkul, which is the last village on the India side of the Indo Tibetan border. En route we will visit Rakchham Village.
13 Kms from Sangla lies the Rakchham Village located on banks of river Baspa and inhabited by 800 people who are mainly nomads. Village has 2 temples dedicated to Lord Shiva and Goddess Kali. It is not a tourist hub, but a place to stop and appreciate the nature and its beautiful surroundings.
Another 9 Kms drive takes you to Chitkul. You will be mesmerized by the beauty of this place. The village is surrounded by snow clad mountains with Baspa river flowing nearby, lot of apple orchards, meadows, huge rocks and grasslands.
After spending some time in the village and taking photos, we leave for Kalpa. The drive to Kalpa is via Sangla Valley and we can stop in Sangla for some lunch. Chitkul to Kalpa is around 70 Kms and a 3 hour drive.
On arrival in Kalpa you are greeted with majestic views of Kinner Kailash Peaks. Check in at the Guest House or Home Stay.

day 5

Kalpa – Gue Monastery – Tabo Monsatery

After your breakfast around 08:00 am check out and drive to Gue Monastery. About 2.7 Kms after Sumdo and 25 Kms before Tabo there is a sharp reverse U turn on the highway from where the road on the right side goes to Gue Monastery. The Monastery is around 9.5 Kms from this turning. It will take around 5 hours to reach Gue.
You can spend up to an hour here taking photos of the monastery and the surrounding mountains. There is an ITBP post here. There is a small dhaba here where you can get tea/coffee, some omelet and Maggie noodles.
From Gue it is one hours drive to Tabo village. On arrival check in at your Guest House or Home Stay.
Time permitting, we will visit the Tabo Monastery or if for any reason we are unable to visit then we will do that next morning after breakfast.

day 6

Tabo – Dhankar – Pin Valley (Mud Village)

After breakfast around 10:00 am leave for Dhankar Monastery. It will take you around 1.5 hours to reach Dhankar. 23 Kms from Tabo monastery on the Tabo-Kaza highway there is a road that turns right to Dhankar. From here Dhankar is about 8.5 Kms uphill drive.
Visit the Dhankar monastery. From top of the monastery you can take some lovely pictures. From many points on the highway also you can take pictures of Dhankar Monastery and the village. You can have some snack and tea/coffee before leaving.
From Dhankar we drive to Pin Valley. We drive downhill to the Tako – Kaza road and take a right turn towards Kaza.
About 16 Kms before Kaza is Attargo Bridge, over the Spiti river, from where we take a left turn towards Pin Valley.
You will be surprised by sudden transformation in landscape from desert like to green carpeted hills with the furious Pin river flowing through the valley. Most of the road till Mud Village is untarred. On arrival check in at the Home Stay. You can take photos to your hearts content. Mud village acts as base camp for Pin Parvati trek.

day 7

Mud Village – Lallung Monastery – Kye Monastery – Kaza

After breakfast check out and drive to Lallung Monastery. It will take you 2.5 hours to reach Lallung.
After reaching Attargo bridge take a right turn and 1 Kms from the bridge on your left is the road with an uphill drive of about 9 Kms that will take you to Lallung.
If you are in luck you will find the head priest of the monastery there or his daughter will be there and they will explain you the whole history of the Monastery.
After spending an hour in Lallung, you can leave for Kye Monastery. You will cross Kaza (1 – 1.25 hours drive) on the way where you can stop for lunch and then carry on to Kye Monastery.
Kye monastery is 15 Kms from Kaza and it will take about 45 minutes to reach there. You can spend 1 – 1.5 hours at Kye monastery before returning back to Kaza.
On arrival check in at the hotel for dinner and overnight.

day 8

Kaza – Hikkim Vikkage - Komic Village – Langza Village

After breakfast leave for Hikkin Village at 09:00 hours. The drive is about 16 Kms but the road is in a pretty bad shape and it is mostly an uphill drive. It will take you goo 1½ hours to reach Hikkim Village which is famous for having world’s highest Post Office. You can but post cards from the shop opposite to the post office and post them to your friends and family anywhere in the world.
From the highway the post office is about 500 meters downhill. The village have just few mud and brick houses. The climb back can be strenuous due to lack of oxygen at this height.
From here a 15 minutes drive takes us to to Komic Village which is 3 Kms from Hikkim. This is the highest village in the world that is connected by a motorable road. Here you can stop at Spiti Organic Kitchen for lunch, it claims to be the highest restaurant in the world.
After lunch carry on to Langza Village which is 10 Kms from Komic and takes another 30-45 minutes of driving. On arrival check in at the Home stay.
After relaxing for a while drive to see the huge Buddha Statue located on the outskirts of the village. You can also for fossil hunting, but we suggest that you should not bring the fossils back with you. If you want you can but replicas made by locals as souvenirs.
Langza is one of the best places for star gazing.

day 9

Langzha – Tashigang (optional) - Kibber – Chandrataal

If you wish to travel to Tashigang, then we suggest that you leave early by 8:30 am. If you plan to skip Tashigang then you can perhaps leave around 10:00 – 10:30 am. Tashigang is at least a 2 hours drive from Langza. Tashigang is the highest polling station in the world. There are just 5-6 houses in all and it is basically inhabited by one family.
From Tashigang we drive on to Kibber Village which is one hour drive from here. If we are skipping Tashigang then Kibber is about 1.5 hour drive from Langza. After spending about an hour in Kibber we drive on to Chandra Tal lake.
On the way we can stop at Losar for lunch. From Losar we drive on crossing the Kunzum Pass and just before Batal there is a road going right to Chandra Tal. This road goes along the river Chenab and takes us right to Chandratal.
On arrival check in at your camp. Dinner and overnight at the Camp.

day 10

Chandrataal – Batal – Chattru – Rohtang – Manali

Early in the morning (around 7:00 am) before breakfast, a 10 minute drive from your camp will take you to the parking from where you need to walk about 1 Km to Chandra Tal lake. Go prepared for a windy and cold very cold morning.
Click photographs to your hearts content. Spend around 90 minutes here and then return to the camp for breakfast.
Around 10:00 am leave for Manali. En route you can stop ay Chhatru for some tea/coffee and snacks. By the time you reach Rohtang, it will be quite crowded and there will be a lot of traffic. You may stop for lunch at Marhi.
Arrive Manali in the late afternoon and check in at your hotel. Relax at your hotel.

Leave Manali

After breakfast check-out from the hotel.
In case you have driven from Delhi or Chandigarh, you will drive back to your home town. Alternately you can take an overnight Volvo coach to Chandigarh or Delhi.
